SELF-ADHESIVE tape maker Visko Industries Sdn Bhd plans to invest RM30 million to build a 2ha manufacturing plant in the Port Klang Free Zone (PKFZ).

Visko is a joint-venture company between Taiwan’s Alpha Beta Enterprise Co Ltd and Indonesia’s PT Ekadharma International Tbk.

The company already has two plants in Indonesia and three in Taiwan.

“Two factors made us choose PKFZ, time and costs. Here we found that we needed only 10 minutes to load our products to containers and because we are so close to the port, we also reduce transport costs,” Visko Industries managing director Judi Widjaja Leonardi told reporters in Pulau Indah after its ground-breaking ceremony.

Judi said the location is ideal as the plant will cater to the needs of the Asean market. According to him, Asean demand is around 100 million sq m a month.

The plant in PKFZ will have a monthly capacity of between 30 and 35 million sq m. The plant is expected to be operational by the third quarter of this year, and break even in a year’s time.

There are plans to double capacity in two years.

Visko signed an agreement with PKFZ to buy 2ha of the open land it has with an option for another 2ha.

Visko is one of the 39 companies that have invested RM729 million in PKFZ collectively, generating 888 job opportunities.
